The Arkansas Tech University Department of History and Political Science will host an event entitled “ATU Discusses The Odyssey” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, in Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center room 300A
Three members of the ATU faculty will offer brief presentations related to “The Odyssey,” an ancient Greek literary work attributed to Homer that has returned to prominence in the popular culture in 2026 due to the release of a new major motion picture based upon the epic poem
Dr. Peter Dykema, ATU professor of history, will offer a talk entitled “History and Mystery in The Odyssey.”
Dr. Kelly Houston Jones, ATU associate professor of history, will make a presentation entitled “Crafty Queens Looming Large.”
Dr. Jeff Mitchell, ATU professor of philosophy, will provide remarks under the theme “How Homer’s Greeks Were Not Like Us.”
Refreshments will be served. Admission will be free and open to the public
