As summer winds down, fans of spooky season and ’90s cult classic films can look forward to the release of “Practical Magic 2,” as Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprise their beloved roles as witchy sisters
In the original 1998 film, Bullock and Kidman star as Sally and Gillian Owens, sisters from a long line of witches who are plagued with a curse in which any man who falls in love with them will die. While they possess special powers, Sally and Gillian are also normal women with hopes and dreams who grew up with their eccentric aunts in a cozy house in a coastal New England town — and fans of the film fell in love with their style. The Owens sisters’ wardrobes featured classic ’90s silhouettes, flowing skirts and dresses, floral patterns, loose jeans and plenty of cozy sweaters, with some witchy undertones.

This look worn by Nicole Kidman in the first “Practical Magic” film embodies a sort of Victorian boho aesthetic that leans toward the dark romance of a 1990s witch’s wardrobe. Done in dark green velvet with a swirling pattern, the dress features an empire waist and A-line skirt. This was a Monah Li look, at least in part — the designer believes the film’s costume designer, Judianna Makovsky, reworked the piece

Bullock’s choice of footwear for the premiere was even more on-theme — she wore a pair of strappy heeled sandals featuring a jeweled spider adornment, a subtle nod to the film. The arachnid shoes looked like a style from Dolce & Gabbana

Kidman has not only played Gillian Owens on screen, but also another witch: Isabel Bigelow in the 2005 film “Bewitched.” In another non-traditional approach to witch fashion, she wore a white Yves Saint Laurent gown to the premiere, which featured ruffling and retro buttons. Her accessories were gold, creating almost a Greek goddess look, with barely-there thong sandal flats completing the ensemble
Kidman embraced a darkly glamorous edge to attend the 2017 American Music Awards, modeling a black velvet Olivier Theyskens dress featuring a flowy skirt with a slit. The look was finished with black Giuseppe Zanotti over-the-knee stiletto boots with metallic detailing up the shaft
