I’m not that old, but one of those things that makes me feel old is when I remember that next summer “The Simpsons Movie” will turn twenty
I’ll never forget seeing it at a theater in Sheridan, Wyoming, in the middle of a family trip to Yellowstone, because there was no way I was going to wait until we got back home to see it
Now, two decades later, we’re getting our first look at the follow-up, dubbed “The New Simpsons Movie.”

There was a “Simpsons” panel on Friday at Disney’s D23 convention, where some show staff members, including creator Matt Groening, fielded questions from fans and teased the upcoming season
They also showed off a teaser for the new movie
It’s not a true teaser, and as you’ll see, it’s not even completed, polished animation at this point
But it’s baseball-centric and funny, so take a gander
It’s hard to glean what the overall plot of the movie will be from that clip. Of course, it looks like Homer trying to catch a record-breaking baseball at a Springfield Isotopes game will be part of it
Which sounds like a great idea, and one that, wildly, I don’t think they’ve ever touched on in the show’s more than 800 episodes

The gags in there are great. I loved the organist playing ballpark standards as she tries to catch the ball and Jacques Brunswick (that’s a deep-cut character, but true fans know him) getting shoved into the urinal trough

The first movie had a few of those big, complex, almost “Looney Tunes”-esque sequences full of jokes and character cameos, and it looks like at least one will be in the sequel
“The New Simpsons Movie” is slated to hit theaters on September 3, 2027, and I think we should prepare for the marketing onslaught
If that means I have to eat at Burger King three times a day to collect all of the toys just like I did in 2007, I’m prepared to do it
