Luxury Travel Trends 2026: Privacy, Personalization, and Seamless Execution
Ultra-wealthy travellers are shifting their focus away from conventional five-star lodgings and hard-to-get bookings, placing greater value on time, seclusion, and tailor-made encounters, says Matthieu Schon, who heads the international luxury concierge firm Matt Concierge. Drawing on over ten years in high-end retail, private jets, and hospitality, Schon has watched client priorities change. His company crafts custom trips for business leaders, executives, families, and private parties heading to some of the globe’s most sought-after spots.
Schon notes that modern luxury is less about flaunting destinations and more about flawless coordination. Travellers want to show up with every detail already managed, so they can immerse themselves in the moment. He points out that luxury travel is frequently misread as merely reserving the priciest suite. In reality, clients are paying for discernment, connections, and flawless delivery—understanding personal travel styles, lining up vendors, choosing the ideal room rather than just any room, mapping out sensible schedules, and resolving issues before they surface.
The appetite for exclusive stays and one-of-a-kind events is pushing travellers to lock in plans earlier. During busy seasons, major tournaments, and times when villas and private islands are in high demand, reservations are now frequently secured six to twelve months ahead. Schon stresses that the goal is rarely to spend lavishly but to capture the precise property, vessel, or event a client desires before it is gone
Seclusion has become another cornerstone of upscale travel. Rather than chasing total invisibility, clients increasingly seek command over who sees their details, schedules, and private spaces. For some, privacy means private lounges and quiet transfers; for others, it is simply having dinner or a family getaway without disruptions. At its core, luxury is about stripping away obstacles from every leg of the trip
This shift is also reshaping how trips are planned, with travellers leaning toward unhurried, adaptable schedules instead of jam-packed agendas. Quality time with loved ones, seclusion, and meaningful moments now outweigh ticking off numerous activities. In one case, a client wanted a private marriage proposal in Paris. Matt Concierge secured sole access to Le Jules Verne, perched within the Eiffel Tower, so the couple could share the occasion away from crowds. Schon explains that the aim was not to make the gesture flashier but to make it intimate—those are the memories that endure.
Although Saint-Tropez, Capri, Lake Como, and the French Riviera continue to draw interest, Schon sees rising enthusiasm for Japan, the Nordic countries, and exclusive safari outings. His guidance for travellers is simple: begin with the purpose of the journey, whether it is marking a milestone, bonding with family, discovering unfamiliar terrain, or simply unwinding, and let the location and plan follow from there. Luxury is not about piling on extras—it is about eliminating anything that does not enhance the experience.
