An unlicensed doctor is facing charges for an injection that police allege took a woman’s life in the Bronx. NBC New York’s Ida Siegal reports.
A woman died after receiving a serum injection from an unlicensed doctor at a wellness center in the Bronx, and now the holistic healthcare provider is facing charges, according to police
Dr. Luis Rojas advertises himself as a holistic doctor who offers alternative medicine at the Bereshit Lifestyle Center along Riverdale Avenue. His website offers a host of services, but it neglects to mention that Rojas does not have a license to practice medicine in the U.S
That fact was uncovered as police were investigating the death of Elizabeth Baron, who was under Rojas’ care. Law enforcementome sort of serum on Sunday when something went wrong. She lost consciousness and was taken to the emergency room just after 1 p.m., but she could not be saved

Rojas has a license to practice medicine in the Dominican Republic but not in the U.S., according to police. His website indicates he is certified as a medical assistant in alternative medicine
The doctor was charged with reckless endangerment and unauthorized practice of a profession. Attorney information for Rojas was not known
The medical examiner is investigating and will determine the exact cause of death. It was not immediately clear if Baron had any underlying medical conditions
