Steamboat Springs School District taps new director of finance and operations

The Steamboat Springs School District has selected Derek Fettig, a financial strategist with more than 10 years of experience in financial leadership and operational management, as its new director of finance and operations, effective Monday, Aug. 17, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
Fettig’s appointment comes after Stephanie Juneau, who formerly held the role, stepped down following the 2025-26 school year to pursue her next professional chapter in Crested Butte, said Director of Communications Laura Milius.
Most recently, Fettig served as the director of finance and operations for The Firewater Firm and Mile High Brand Builders for over a decade, where he directed full-scope financial planning, multi-year forecasting, generally accepted accounting principles compliance, and cash and debt management.
His broader professional background includes financial modeling, project management and analysis roles at firms in Denver, New York and Delaware. Fettig holds a bachelor of science in finance with a minor in marketing from the University of Delaware.
In his new role with the district, Fettig will supervise budget development, financial reporting, cash and debt management, internal controls and operational infrastructure.
Superintendent Kristin Drury, who begins her tenure with the district this year, said district staff are “thrilled” to welcome Fettig to the administrative team.
“Derek (Fettig) brings exceptional financial acumen, strategic forecasting skills, and a proven track record of building transparent, disciplined financial systems,” said Drury in the statement. “As a longtime local resident and parent who is deeply invested in our community, his vision aligns perfectly with our goal of maintaining strong fiscal health to support our educators and students.”
In the statement, Fettig — who moved to town with his family in 2022 and also works as an alpine and free ski coach for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club — said he cherishes the opportunity to channel his financial experience into Steamboat’s public schools.
“My career has been built on rigorous financial strategy and turning complex systems into clear, actionable reporting,” said Fettig. “I look forward to applying that discipline to the state’s school finance framework and partnering with Superintendent Drury, the Board of Education, and our community to keep our district on a strong, sustainable path.”
