The Rams and cornerback Trent McDuffie on Wednesday launched the Inglewood Flag Football League in a continued effort to elevate access to sports in the Los Angeles area
The league is for the Inglewood Unified School District elementary and middle schools and will consist of 240 student participants, who will play in Rams jerseys with their school logos incorporated
The Rams will also fund equipment “such as footballs and flags to facilitate the function of the league in all eight schools,” per a release from the team
“The first sport I played when I was five years old was flag football. When I was a kid, I was out here doing these same camps,” McDuffie said in a statement. “A lot of these kids will grow up together, play football together, be in high school together. You create a lot of bonds and a lot of memories when you’re out here. Being able to come back to Inglewood and be an inspiration to some of these kids, have them talk to me and ask me questions, is all I want to do. This is something that I developed the love to do, to be out in the community. I think sports are a way everybody can come together and do something bigger than themselves.”
McDuffie was traded to the Rams this past offseason from the Kansas City Chiefs, a move that served as a homecoming for the California native, who played high school football at St. John Bosco in Bellflower
As part of the launch, McDuffie also donated backpacks filled with school supplies to all participants
