Could Nick Robertson end up having a big year for the Penguins?
Earlier this off-season, the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Nick Robertson from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 2028 fourth-round pick. This was after Robertson had been the subject of trade rumors for multiple years.
Robertson is also joining the Penguins after he set career highs with 16 goals, 16 assists, and 32 points in 78 games last season with Toronto. However, could he hit a new level for the Penguins in 2026-27?
In a recent article for The Hockey News’ main site, Michael Traikos named Robertson as one of the NHL’s top breakout candidates for next season
“A change of scenery might be just what the 24-year-old winger needs to unlock his potential,” Traikos wrote. “After all, the Pittsburgh Penguins have had great success with reclamation projects recently.”

With Robertson still being young and having good upside, it would not be too surprising if his offensive production improved next season. This is especially so when noting that he has the potential to have a more significant role with the Penguins than he did with the Maple Leafs
If Robertson can take his game to a new level, it would certainly be good news for a Penguins club that will be looking to prove that last season was not a fluke. Perhaps playing with legends like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin could be exactly what helps Robertson blossom into a true top-six forward next season.
