The resale value of an item is increasingly becoming a factor consumers consider before making a purchase, even for one-of-a-kind items
Naia, the AI-powered discovery platform for one-of-one fashion, has announced the launch of “First Dibs,” a feature designed specifically for its lesser-known brand partners
One-of-one fashion refers to unique, bespoke or upcycled clothing where only a single garment exists in the entire world
First Dibs lets shoppers place a “First Dib” on a piece they love but aren’t ready to buy at full price, signaling they’d want it if it becomes available later. Customers can also place a “Priority Dib” by adding a small deposit, indicating both the resale price they’d be willing to pay and the length of time they’re prepared to wait
When the original buyer decides to sell, they can offer the item to the Priority Dib holder at the previously indicated price. Naia will remind owners that there’s already interest waiting in the wings—so the potential resale opportunity stays part of the ownership experience rather than appearing only at the end
With First Dibs, the company said the idea is to extend the value of “shopping small” beyond the moment a customer hits purchase. By making future resale demand visible and clearer, the company said the platform aims to reduce the financial hesitation that often comes with choosing independent designers—especially when an item costs more than mass-market alternatives
Under the hood, Naia positions the feature as part of a broader effort to make circular and sustainable shopping feel more financially justified. The company said sustainability stories alone don’t always carry adoption at scale, because price and perceived risk still weigh on customers deciding between emerging designers and familiar brands
