The latestU.S. News and World Report New Jersey high schools rankings have Secaucus’ High Tech cracking the top 20, with Hudson County Prep in Jersey City coming in at No. 61
Nationally, High Tech is ranked No. 334, while County Prep is No. 1,127. Both learning institutions are part of the Hudson County Schools of Technology
“In coordination with North Carolina-based RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm (RTI), U.S. News ranked nearly 18,000 public high schools out of more than 27,000 reviewed. Among other criteria, these public high schools had a 12th grade enrollment of 15 students or greater,” U.S. News explained
“U.S. News did this by summing their weighted scores across six indicators of school quality, then computing a single zero to 100 overall score reflective of a school’s performance across these metrics. The overall scores depict how well each school did on a national percentile basis.”
They added that they compiled the rankingsficiency – 20%; state assessment performance – 20%; underserved student performance – 10%; college curriculum breadth – 10%; and graduation rate – 10%
“These rankings are a direct reflection of the standards we hold for our students and our staff,” HCST Superintendent Thomas Macagnano said in a statement
“Our teachers and administrators work every day to make sure a HCST education prepares students for what comes next, and results like these show that work is paying off.”
On Friday, the HCST announced that they had earned Hudson County Teacher of the Year honors for the second consecutive year, with High Tech High School Earth and Environmental Science teacher Dr. Shelly Witham receiving that distinction
