Deadly stash uncovered after police dig up garden of Salford home in major operation

A stash of deadly weapons has been uncovered after police dug up the garden of a house in Salford in a major search operation

Officers first raided the home on Crowngreen Road, a quiet cul-de-sac in Eccles, on Wednesday, July 8. Specialist search teams, crime scene investigators and Tactical Aid Unit vans were spotted stationed on the street as searches were carried out inside and outside the property

Forensic officers were pictured carrying evidence bags out of the home. A digger was used to pull up a large area of the garden after ‘information led officers to believe weapons had been hidden there’, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said in a statement issued today (July 20)

Amid the search, police found ‘tion. A machete and class B drugs were also discovered inside the house

The weapons have been taken for forensic testing. A police scene remains in place around the property on Crowngreen Road as the investigation continues
Earlier today, police arrested a 57-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition. Both have been taken into custody for questioning

Detective Sergeant Gareth Bannister, from GMP’s Challenger team,said: “Firearms have absolutely no place on our streets and the recovery of these items is significant in removing potentially lethal weapons from our communities. This is our message to those that look to use violence, intimidation and the threat of firearms to protect their criminal activities and interests – we will pursue you and bring you to justice
