Salad days are over.The Food and Drug Administration is creating more confusion than clarity in its investigation into the outbreak of the cyclospora parasite, which has sickened thousands of people in the U.S. with diarrhea, cramping, and fatigue. Iceberg lettuce sold by Taylor Farms, a produce grower that supplies major U.S. grocery stores, restaurants, and fast food chains, was tentatively identified as the source of the outbreak. But over the weekend, the FDA announced that its researchers had erroneously obtained a false positive — noting that “there are no confirmed positive sample results [of cyclospora] for product testing.”
🥬 Out of an “abundance of caution,” Taylor Farms has nevertheless expanded its voluntary recall of potentially affected products to 25 different shredded lettuce and prepackaged salad mixes shipped across 27 states
