Going from No. 1 to last place isn’t a good thing, and the Lions responded. They hired offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. They locked in some of their main players, such as running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who’s now the highest-paid running back in NFL history with a three-year contract extension worth $67.5 million, up to $75.75 million max
So, will it work? One NFL analyst thinks so

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report has released a feature projecting every NFL division’s standings going into the new season. “Since the beginning of training camp, we have more intel on notable injuries and key position battles. Teams have also made moves to fill leftover roster needs,” he notes

For the Lions, he has them at No. 1 in the NFC North. He puts them 11-6 with the Chicago Bears at 10-7
“With Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and a healthy Sam LaPorta, the Lions should field another high-scoring offense,” he states in the piece. “On the other side of the ball, defensive backs Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph could be back on the field in the near future.”
There’s also the little tidbit that the team plays “indoors for all but one game between Weeks 5 and 16. They’re going to win several high-scoring battles.”
So, the Lions have a lot going for them this season. They have an easier NFL schedule. They also have their star power healthy. That means they could rebound in 2026
