Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III are two of the Chicago Bears’ most popular players. There would be an outcry if Ben Johnson and the Bears were to trade either of these elite athletes

But, mid-July is one of those periods in sports reporting where NFL analysts like to hypothesize. Without games yet, it’s that stretch where it’s fun to think about what could happen, even if “could” really means “probably never.”
In that spirit, Bill Barnwell of ESPN has released a list of what each NFL team could get in return for their current trade options. For the Bears, they could get a haul for Odunze and Burden
Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III trade could pay off for Chicago Bears
If the Bears were to switch gears and trade Odunze and Burden, Barnwell says they could get one first-round pick for each. While that’s enticing, it’s not nearly as exciting as the idea of keeping these talented players exactly where they are today. He also names tight end Colston Loveland and safety Dillon Thieneman as players who could get one first-round pick

“Johnson’s offense undoubtedly helped the playmakers look good, but there’s real talent throughout the Bears’ lineup,” he notes in the piece. Loveland is the most exciting of the bunch and was a top-five tight end over the second half of 2025, but he also plays a less valuable position than Burden or Odunze.”
So, will Johnson seriously consider trading any of these players for a first-rounder? Not a chance. But it’s fun to think about as we wait for September to roll around
