Back in 2017, Apple began rolling out 4K content on the iTunes Store in conjunction with the launch of the first Apple TV 4K. At the time, Apple also began upgrading previously purchased movies to 4K quality at no additional charge
Now, Apple is finally extending that to TV shows and has started offering free 4K upgrades on select titles in the Apple TV app
Apple upgrading TV show purchases to 4K for free
This was spotted by our friend Sigmund Judge last week, who wrote in a post on social media:
Free 4K upgrades on @AppleTV have been a long-time and long-held promise for customers purchasing movies on Apple’s digital storefront
Starting this week, Apple quietly began expanding the free 4K upgrades offer to select TV Shows
The upgrades are in the early stages of rollout, but Sigmund has compiled a full list that you can view on Threads. Among the titles being upgraded to 4K for users at no added charge are:
- Mad Men
- Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
- RuPaul’s Drag Race UK
- Q: Into the Storm
- The Twilight Zone (Reboot)
- The Hunting Wives
- Blossoms Shanghai
- Ice Airport Alaska
- The Wingfeather Saga
- Aftertaste
This means that if you’ve purchased any of these showsch at no additional charge in 4K. We expect this list to continue to grow over time as well
Have you noticed any of your TV shows upgraded to 4K in your Apple Account? Let us know down in the comments
