TheTampa Bay Buccaneersare givingVita Veaa $30 million contract extension, and NFL fans cannot agree on whether it was the correct decision
Despite being a Super Bowl champion and one of the best interior defenders in the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were paying Vita Vea much less than what someone with his resume can ask for

The defensive tackle was set to earn $17 million in 2026, which was an unacceptable outcome to him. As such, it looked like he might leave the Bucs and had even requested a trade in July
However, the Bucs have instead agreed to a contract extension with Vea, one which will lock him in with the team for the next two seasons and give him $6 million extra in this season as well

Vita Vea’s new $30 million deal with the Buccaneers is an ‘overpay’ to some fans, ‘no-brainer’ for others
The two-time Pro Bowler is a premium asset, but he is also 31 years old. While he has been excellent in the previous seasons, it’s hard to guarantee that the production will stay the same in the next two

As such, fans are split on whether Tampa Bay made the right decision or not. Some believe that it was necessary to get done, while others are speculating they might regret it
“Vita Vea getting $30M is just the market now. DTs who collapse pockets are the new premium position in football,” one fan said. “Good on the Bucs for paying the man, it was a no-brainer,” another said
A fan with the opposite view wrote, “Big overpay. Should’ve tried to move him.” A fourth fan agreed, claiming, “Giving a 31-year-old DT $30 million is shocking to me.”

“30 million for a big man who eats double teams for breakfast is a steal in this market honestly,” a different fan said. “I have a feeling the Bucs should have traded him instead,” a sixth fan wrote
If Vea can continue to perform at the highest level, this contract will still be a bargain for the Bucs. However, an injury or any type of decline could turn it into a regret in 2027
