After 10 years on the market, Pokémon GO has finally introduced one of the items that most improve the quality of life for its players—and it’s completely free. After appearing a couple of months ago as a beta item, users around the world are finally receiving the Explorer Gadget today
How does the new Pokémon GO Explorer Gadget work?
Starting yesterday afternoon, the Explorer Gadget item began appearing in Pokémon GO users’ accounts. The item serves the same purpose as the Go Plus devices in real life, which, when connected to the user’s smartphone, allow you to spin PokéStops and throw PokéBalls to try to catch Pokémon you encounter along the way.The item provides a set number of attempts to catch Pokémon with Poké Balls and spin PokéStops, with the number of attempts tied to each player’s Trainer Level. In other words, Level 35 players will have 35 opportunities to use Poké Balls and spin PokéStops, while Level 64 players will have 64 opportunities. It’s an extremely useful item when you’re on the go, as well as during events like Community Day. The Pokémon GO Plus+ can even be used to track sleep in Pokémon Sleep, providing a bonus to your partner in Pokémon GO.

With this move, Scopely Explore seems to be aiming to level the playing field a bit more and make certain benefits—which for years were primarily tied to physical accessories like the Poké Ball Plus and Pokémon GO Plus+—available to the entire community. The Explorer Gadget doesn’t necessarily render these devices obsolete or replicate all their capabilities, but it does remove a significant barrier to entry by offering a free alternative for those who simply want to make the most of their daily commutes without having to keep the game open all the time.
