YouTube has announced a series of updates that are designed to simplify and speed up the thumbnail creation process, giving creators more control over how their content appears across the platform. The video-sharing giant is introducing custom thumbnail options for YouTube Shorts and rolling out conversational AI-generated thumbnails for long-form videos directly within its Studio dashboard.The changes aim to help creators save valuable production time while boosting viewer engagement and click-through rates, the company said in an announcement.

Custom Shorts uploads: YouTube Partner Program creators can now upload fully custom thumbnail images for their Shorts, offering greater control over branding and visual presentation. The company said that it plans to expand this capability to more creators in the coming months.Desktop frame selection: Creators uploading Shorts via desktop can now choose from three automatically suggested thumbnail frames, matching a feature long available for standard long-form videos. Creators can still select any precise video frame using the YouTube mobile app.

For long-form video creators, YouTube is bringing direct thumbnail generation into Ask Studio.Using simple conversational prompts, creators can ask the tool to generate a tailored thumbnail based on their video’s topic.
