W.Va. (WTAP) – WVU Medicine will hold its annual Health and Wellness Day at Grand Central Mall on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering free health screenings, information on hospital services, and activities for families
The event will be centered in the mall’s center court, where attendees can pick up an information package before visiting vendors and hospital departments stationed throughout the mall
Representatives from WVU Medicine’s service lines will be on hand to provide information on how to connect with providers, including options for those seeking a new family doctor
Available services will include blood pressure checks, EKG vouchers, and information on WVU Medicine’s lung screening program
According to representatives, lung cancer is the leading cancer in the Meadow High Valley area
The hospital’s lung screening program offers low-dose CT scans covered by insurance for qualifying patients
This year, the program identified 16 cancers in asymptomatic patients
WVU Medicine’s cancer center will also offer skin cancer screenings at the event
Representatives will promote the Camden Clark Foundation’s Pink Mammogram Fund, which covers free screening mammograms and diagnostics year-round
No financial aid application or doctor’s order is required to participate. The Women’s Care Center will also be represented at the event
The Rotary Club of Parkersburg will sell low-cost blood screening vouchers throughout the day
Attendees can also participate in a Stuff the Truck drive collecting back-to-school supplies for local children
The event coincides with the state’s tax-free holiday weekend. Characters Bluey and Bingo will be present for children attending the event
