BALTIMORE —
A free fitness program called Waterfront Wellness is bringing outdoor workouts to Baltimore’s waterfront parks, offering residents a chance to exercise while enjoying scenic views of the Inner Harbor
Kent Hansen, owner of CrossFit Harbor East, is one of the local business owners offering classes

“Nothing makes me happier than seeing somebody’s face light up once they’ve done something they didn’t think they could do,” Hansen said
As summer winds down, Hansen is trading the gym’s four walls for fresh air, motivating Marylanders to move, sweat and build community
“We’re getting a brand-new audience of people — people from all around Baltimore, not just Harbor East or Harbor Point,” he said
The program offers a variety of workout classes, including Pilates, CrossFit, yoga, dance fitness and high-intensity interval training, catering to all fitness levels
“We have them six days a week in different parks around the waterfront,” said Marina McCaney, brand strategist for the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore. “There’s a little bit of something no matter what you want to do.”
Organizers say the program is about more than just exercise. It aims to encourage people to spend time outdoors and make public spaces feel more welcoming and accessible
“Everyone loves to take a studio class because everyone loves hot yoga,” McCaney said. “But it’s different to be outside, especially in your own community, in your space, in your public green space that a lot of people don’t realize is there sometimes.”
Waterfront Wellness runs through Sept. 17
Hansen said participants can expect body-weight workouts, cardio, burpees and opportunities to learn new movements during the Thursday CrossFit sessions
“It’s amazing for me to see that not only in our gym but also outside, just seeing people do amazing things or things they’re not used to doing,” he said
