Don’t look now, this week, the ACC football teams and some players will gather in Charlotte for ACC media days. It’ll be the first time that the ACC media and national media get a crack at first-year Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin
It was announced last month that Franklin will be joined by defensive lineman Kemari Copeland, safety Tyson Flowers, and running back Marcellous Hawkins. Franklin and the student athletes will be made available on Thursday. Here is the list of schools and which days they’ll be attending
- Wednesday: ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina State, Stanford, and Virginia.
- Thursday: Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech.
- Friday: California, Duke, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, SMU, and Wake Forest.

On Saturday, former Virginia Tech right-hander Brent Renfrow did not wait long to hear his name called in the 2026 MLB Draft. The Virginia native went in the third round to the Minnesota Twins with the 74th overall pick. On Sunday, more Hokies heard their names called in Philadelphia
In the ninth round, right-handed pitcher Luke Craytor was selected by the Chicago White Sox, 255th overall. Four rounds later, in the 13th round, right-handed pitcher Griffin Stieg was picked 378th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the 15th-round, 449th overall, left-handed pitcher Madden Clement went to the Kansas City Royals
Tobi Lawal plays his second NBA Summer League game
Tobi Lawal played his second NBA Summer League game for the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night after being picked in the second round of June’s NBA Draft. In a 91-70 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, the former Virginia Tech forward had eight points and five rebounds in 22 minutes. Lawal and Dallas will be back in action on Monday at 7 p.m. on ESPN against the Memphis Grizzlies
