- The Victor Valley Transit Authority has extended its Route 31 bus service to the Victorville Wellness Center.
- Officials state the new bus service removes transportation barriers and helps connect residents to vital community resources.
The Victor Valley Transit Authority has expanded public transportation access to the Victorville Wellness Center
The agency’s Route 31 now provides center residents with reliable, daily transportation to employment, healthcare, education and essential community services, the agency stated
The Wellness Center opened in December 2023 and is a low-barrier, non-congregate interim housing campus developed by the city through a $28 million HomeKey grant from the state of California
Accessing services
Since July 5, Route 31 has traveled from the Victor Valley Transportation Center on D Street to the Victorville Wellness Center on First Street before returning to the transit center
From the transit center, residents and others can transfer to agency’s extensive regional transit network that includes the High Desert and portions of the Inland Empire
“Our Victorville Wellness Center is successful because we have strong community partners, like VVTA,” Victorville Mayor Liz Becerra said. “The City of Victorville is extremely grateful to VVTA for expanding bus service to the Center, which increases access to reerable.”
The new stop on Route 31 is served daily throughout the week
“VVTA is proud to expand transit access with the introduction of daily service to the Victorville Wellness Center through Route 31,” VVTA CEO Rod Goldman said. “Reliable transportation is essential to helping people access healthcare, employment, housing opportunities and other vital services. By connecting the Wellness Center directly to the Victor Valley Transportation Center, we’re removing transportation barriers and helping residents stay connected to the resources they need to build a brighter future.”
Wellness Center
The 170-bed Wellness Center provides temporary housing, on-site medical care, behavioral health services, case management, and other supportive services that help individuals and families transition to permanent housing.
The campus also welcomes pets, removing one of the most common barriers that prevents people experiencing homelessness from seeking shelter
The city of Victorville contracts with Symba, a nonprofit organization, to operate the facility and provide residents with essential services, healthcare, and comprehensive wraparound support
In May, city leaders touted the Wellness Center for a decrease in Victorville’s homeless population, with the numbers revealed in the recent Point in Time Count survey
The city cited the San Bernardino County-driven survey, which showed the number of unsheltered homeless individuals in Victorville decreased 68% in the past two years, and overall homelessness is down 28%
Route 31
Route 31 serves key destinations throughout Victorville and Adelanto, including the Victor Valley Transportation Center, the Crossroads at 395, Silverado High School, Kaiser Permanente, and various residential neighborhoods.
With direct connections at the Victor Valley Transportation Center, Wellness Center residents can access dozens of additional destinations throughout the Victor Valley and beyondntana, and the San Bernardino Transit Center
