Connecticut is home to some of the best high schools in the United States, according to new rankings by U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday released its 2026-2027 Best High Schools Rankings, with 85 Connecticut high schools ranked in the top 25% nationally

Out of nearly 18,000 public high schools ranked based on performance on state tests, graduation rates, college readiness measures and more, Connecticut had the fifth highest percentage of the top-ranked public high schools in the country
Overall, 200 Connecticut high schools from all across the state were featured in the 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings. Of them, 18 Connecticut high schools were ranked in the top 5% nationally and 37 were ranked in the top 10% nationally
For the 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings, U.S. News used six performance indicators, including college-level exam scores; college curriculum breadth; state assessment proficiency; math, reading and science state assessment scores; underserved student performance; and graduation rates, according to the methodology

1. Connecticut IB Academy
Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy, a public interdistrict magnet school in East Hartford also known as CIBA, is again ranked as the No. 1 best high school in the state
U.S. News also ranked it No. 153 nationally. The school has only about 200 students, and every student completes the International Baccalaureate requirements for graduation, including academic and service components
2. Greenwich High School
Greenwich High School is ranked No. 2 in Connecticut and No. 194 nationally

It is one of the largest high schools in the state, with about 2,500 students
3. Weston High School
At No. 3 in Connecticut, Weston High School is also ranked No. 235 nationally
The high school, located in Fairfield County, has around 700 students

4. Darien High School
Darien High School is ranked the fourth best high school in Connecticut and the 246th best in the U.S
It is the only public high school serving the town of Darien, and has around 1,400 students
5. Staples High School
In Westport, Staples High School was ranked No. 5 in the state and No. 270 nationally

The high school has around 1,600 students
6. New Canaan High School
New Canaan High School secured sixth place for the best high schools in Connecticut, and also ranked No. 297 nationally
It is also located in Fairfield County and serves around 1,200 students

7. Wilton High School
At No. 7 in the state is Wilton High School
It has slightly over 1,000 students and was ranked No. 300 in the 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings
8. Hall High School
Located in West Hartford, Hall High School is the eighth best high school in Connecticut and No. 368 in the United States, according to the rankings

9. Ridgefield High School
Ridgefield High School is No. 9 in Connecticut and No. 439 in the country
It serves around 1,300 students in the Ridgefieldschool district

Simsbury High School, located in Hartford County, is the 10th best high school in Connecticut and ranked No. 465 nationally
It is in the Farmington Valley and has slightly over 1,000 students
