These are the 10 best NJ hospitals for cancer care, U.S. News says

Two New Jersey hospitals are among the top 100 in the nation for cancer treatment, according to an annual report released this week by U.S. News & World Report
Hackensack University Medical Center took the top spot in the Garden State and was also ranked 38th nationally for cancer care
The new Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center in New Brunswick was given a “high performing” recognition, meaning it was ranked somewhere between 51 and 100
No other hospitals were nationally ranked, although another survey this year by Newsweek listed five New Jersey hospitals among the top 200 in the U.S. for oncology treatment

Cancer remains the second leading killer in New Jersey following heart disease
But earlier detection and better treatments have almost halved the death rate in the past quarter century. Cancer deaths dropped from 205 per 100,000 residents in 2000 to 122 per 100,000 residents in 2024. New Jersey has also dipped below the national average of 139 deaths per 100,000 in 2024, whereas it was above the national average in the early 2000s
Hospitals in New Jersey have placed a greater emphasis on cancer care in the last several decades to keep patients from seeking care at medical centers and specialized hospitals in New York and Philadelphia

The hospitals received scores from U.S. News based on patient outcomes, communication, availability of advanced treatments, endorsements by national organizations and a survey by cancer specialists

- Jersey Shore Medical Center 53.3/100
- Morristown Medical Center 51.4/100
- Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston 47.6/100
- Overlook Medical Center, 46.9/100
- Englewood Hospital 46.1/100
- Cooper University Hospital, Camden 45.6/100
- JFK University Medical Center, Edison 44.3/100
- Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch 41.2/100
