S.D. (KOTA) – South Dakota’s public universities are expanding artificial intelligence education after the Board of Regents approved four new AI-focused degree programs
The new programs include a doctoral degree in Artificial Intelligence at Dakota State University and bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in Artificial Intelligence Engineering at South Dakota State University
Regents officials said the programs are part of a broader statewide AI strategy aimed at expanding AI education, research, workforce development and responsible technology use
SDSU’s programs will combine computer science, engineering, mathematics, machine learning and responsible AI practices, giving students hands-on experience developing intelligent systems for industries such as agriculture, healthcare and manufacturing
DSU’s doctoral program will focus on advanced AI research, including areas like autonomous systems, cybersecurity and intelligent infrastructure through partnerships with industry and government
The Board of Regents said the programs are expected to begin accepting students this fall as South Dakota prepares students for careers in a growing AI-driven economy
