The 2026 NFL Draft delivered a massive economic boost to the Pittsburgh region, generating $177 million in economic impact and over $1.5 billion in total economic value, according to two independent post-event studies released Monday
Conducted by sports research firms Sportsimpacts and Trajektory, the reports evaluate the three-day event held April 23–25, which drew a record 805,000 fans across Downtown Pittsburgh, the North Shore, and Point State Park

Sportsimpacts focused on visitor spending, overnight stays, and regional destination perception, calculating the direct $177 million impact. The study highlighted Pittsburgh’s walkable downtown, riverfront venues, and proximity to major markets as key factors driving turnout
Visitor feedback was overwhelmingly positive: 83 percent reported high satisfaction with their trip, 78 percent rated Pittsburgh as an excellent host city, and 75 percent indicated they plan to return within the next five years. Additionally, 51 percent said the visit improved their overall perception of the city
“The NFL Draft created two extraordinary legacies for Pittsburgh,” said Jerad Bachar, President and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. “The first was immediate—record visitation, economic activity and an unforgettable experience for hundreds of thousands of fans. The second is just beginning. The visibility, reputation and momentum generated over the past two years have fundamentally elevated how Pittsburgh is perceived around the world.”

While Sportsimpacts analyzed the direct financial footprint, Trajektory quantified the city’s global media exposure, estimating its economic value at over $1.5 billion. The analysis covered broadcast, social media, public relations, and in-venue channels from the time Pittsburgh was awarded the event through its conclusion

The event reached 55 million broadcast viewers worldwide, generated 8.6 billion television impressions, and garnered $1.41 billion in public relations publicity value during Draft week alone. On social media, Pittsburgh produced more than double the impressions and followers of any previous host city, marking it as the most socially viewed draft in league history
Local and state leadership praised the joint effort between the NFL, VisitPITTSBURGH, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and civic officials
“Steelers Nation is known far and wide for their dedication, and the NFL Draft gave us the opportunity to share that passion—and our city—with the world,” said Steelers president Art Rooney II. “The results reflect what happens when an entire community comes together around a common vision.”
