Porter Airlines is refreshing the cabins of its entire De Havilland Dash 8-400 fleet with new ultra-lightweight seats from French manufacturer Expliseat. The new seats enhance passenger comfort while lowering aircraft weight and reducing fuel burn
The Canadian carrier is installing the latest generation of Expliseat’s TiSeat 2V across all 29 Dash 8-400 turboprops as part of a fleet-wide cabin modernisation programme. The first upgraded aircraft have already entered service, with the remaining fleet to be completed by autumn 2026.
New TiSeat 2V seats are designed for comfort and efficiency
Expliseat touts the TiSeat 2V selected by Porter Airlines for the Dash 8-400 as the world’s lightest aircraft seat in its category. Built using carbon fibre and titanium, the seat weighs significantly less than conventional economy seating while maintaining durability and certification standards
To enhance its passenger experience, Porter has customised the new seats with:
- Redesigned seat and back cushions developed specifically for the airline
- Updated tray tables
- Integrated holders for personal electronic devices
- Redesigned first-row tray tables, providing additional personal space
The airline is keeping its existing cabin layout unchanged, preserving legroom
The Dash 8-400 fleet will offer:
- 32 inches of pitch in PorterReserve
- 30 inches of pitch in PorterClassic
- A 2-2 seating layout with no middle seats throughout the cabin.

Porter Airlines’ Dash-8 refurbishment extends beyond seating
The airline is also fitting its Dash 8 fleet with LED mood lighting, new LED reading lights, and fresh cabin carpeting
Together, the upgrades are intended to modernise the interior while maintaining the airline’s premium economy positioning in Canada’s regional market.
Kent Woodside, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Porter Airlines, said passenger feedback had identified seat comfort as a key part of the travel experience
“Our passengers told us that seat comfort is a meaningful part of their experience, even on shorter regional flights. Updating seats, along with other cabin upgrades, will noticeably refresh and modernise the overall environment.”
He added that Porter would become the first Canadian airline operating Dash 8 aircraft with the enhanced cabin design.
Lightweight seats help reduce fuel consumption
While passengers will benefit from the refreshed interiors, airlines also invest in lightweight seating for operational reasons
Reducing aircraft weight lowers fuel consumption and carbon emissions over an aircraft’s lifetime. Expliseat says its carbon fibre and titanium construction can reduce seat weight by up to 30% compared with conventional aircraft seats, allowing Porter to improve the aircraft’s efficiency without sacrificing passenger comfort.

A long-standing partnership
The cabin refresh builds on an existing relationship between Porter and Expliseat, which has previously supplied seating for the airline’s Dash 8 fleet
Jean-François Tessier, Expliseat’s Vice President of Sales for North America, said: “This refresh reflects our shared commitment to combining innovative seating technology with lightweight performance, operational efficiency, and enhanced passenger comfort—principles that have defined our collaboration for several years.”
Porter’s Dash 8-400 aircraft operate regional routes across Eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. They complement the airline’s growing fleet of Embraer E195-E2 jets, which operate longer domestic and international routes
