Orlando restaurant shuts down for 5th time this year, records show

ORLANDO, Fla. – Last week, nearly a dozen Central Florida eateries were forced to shut down temporarily after a visit from a health inspectors, according to state records

But out of all these businesses, one has now closed down five times this year thus far

That restaurant — China Lee in Orlando — was first shut down back in March after over 100 live cockroaches and around 400 rodent droppings were discovered on the premises, reports show

China Lee had to close again in April, May, and even earlier this month, but it was ultimately allowed to reopen in each of these cases after meeting inspection standards

Similarly, China Lee had to close last week after a health inspector noted some more issues with pests, hygiene practices and food storage. Again, it was allowed to reopen around one day later

The full list of Central Florida eateries forced to close between July 20 – 26 is as follows:

COCOA

• Troy’s — 926 Fay Blvd.
  • Closed on July 23
    • Over 40 rodent droppings found
  • Met inspection standards on July 24

DAYTONA BEACH

• Urban Soul Daiquiris & Wingz — 601 Main Street
  • Closed on July 22
    • Three small, flying insects found on premises
    • Eight live roaches found on premises
  • Met inspection standards on July 24

ORLANDO

• Catrina’s Mexican Fusion — 925 N. Semoran Blvd.
  • Closed on July 24
    • Around 75 dead roaches found on premises
    • Over 20 live roaches found on premises, mainly coming from wall next to back door (operator killed all and discarded)
    • Seven flying insects spotted at onion bags beneath prep table
    • Raw pork kept over cooked chicken in walk-in cooler
  • Met inspection standards on July 25
• China Lee — 2338 S. Kirkman Road
  • Closed on July 21
    • Nearly 10 dead roaches found on premises (one found in uncovered bin of msg)
    • Roach egg sac found in bin of flour by grill
    • Roach egg sac found in electric box by back door
    • Thirty rodent droppings found on trays on speed rack by rice cooker by 3-compartment sink
    • Time/temperature violations for egg drop soup; broth; wontons; and cooked pork
    • Bottle of drain cleaner kept next to can of ketchup in handwash sink
    • Cook began cooking without washing hands
    • Employee touched trash can and then marinated raw chicken
    • Ginger and cooked chicken stored in nonfood-grade grocery bags in walk-in cooler
    • Raw chicken kept over prepped vegetables in walk-in cooler
    • Raw shelled eggs kept over buckets of sauce
  • Met inspection standards on July 22

  • Closed on July 21
    • Roughly 20 dead roaches found around water heater in kitchen/food prep area
    • Roughly 20 live roaches found on premises
    • Twenty rodent droppings found behind water heater located in kitchen/prep area
    • One small, flying insect found in cooler
    • Chlorine sanitizer used to sanitize clean in place equipment not at proper minimum strength

SANFORD

    • Over 30 rodent droppings found on premises
    • Rodent bait not contained in a covered, tamper-resistant bait station (on floor below stored chairs)
    • Time/temperature violations for sushi; tuna; imitation crab mixture; salmon; bean sprout; cooked rice; cooked noodles; dumplings; raw crab; raw shrimp; cut tomato; ribs; and raw chicken
    • Nonfood-grade paper towel made contact with fish at sushi station
    • Spray hose at dish sink lower than flood rim of sink

    • No bathroom facility available for public use (toilet reportedly was not flushing properly)

    • Four dead roaches found on premises
    • Five live roaches found on premises
    • Seven rodent droppings discovered behind defunct reach-in cooler in dry storage area
    • Dented can of sauerkraut found on top of prep area near flat top (operator threw can away when asked about it)
    • Dishmachine chlorine sanitizer not at proper minimum strength
  • Met inspection standards on July 22

TAMPA

• Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins— 18003 Highwoods Preserve Pkwy.
  • Closed on July 21
    • Over 20 flies found on premises, primarily on water filter tanks and rolling pan racks
    • Two flies spotted landing on donut inside front counter case (employee discarded donut)
  • Met inspection standards on July 22

THE VILLAGES

• Mezza Lune at The Villages — 243 Colony Blvd.
  • Closed on July 20
    • Around 10 dead roaches found in sticky trap in bar between cooler and window
    • One live roach found in sticky trap in same location
    • Two small flies found on wall beneath dish machine
  • Met inspection standards on July 20

WINTER PARK

• Baby John’s Ice Creamery — 129 W. Fairbanks Ave.
  • Closed on July 22
    • Unlicensed activity
