A Longview mental health hospital will offer free mental health screenings July 18
Oceans Behavioral Hospital will provide the screenings 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its outpatient clinic, 100 W. Hawkins Parkway, Suite D
Screenings are available for adolescents ages 13-17 and adults 18 and older
“It’s just an opportunity for those in our communities to walk through the doors of Oceans outpatient just to see what we’re about,” said Sharron Fowler, the hospital’s business development director
Clinicians will conduct one-on-one confidential mental health screenings with people who attend the event. People who have a certain score on the evaluation might have an opportunity to get help from the clinic, Fowler said
Oceans offers various services for adolescents and adults, including trauma and PTSD support, anxiety and depression treatment, partial hospitalization and group psychotherapy
For senior adults, the clinic’s mind and memory program helps people with memory-related issues, Fowler said
The clinic has short wait times, so some patients are able to receive services the next day, Fowler said. That’s vital because mental health can worsen if left untreated
“It’s just an opportunity for us to help,” she said. “That first step is usually the one that is the hardest to do, so by offering this free screening, we give them a chance to come see us and see what we’re all about. … I think that’s where the healing begins.”
Even if Oceans doesn’t offer the type of mental healthcare someone needs, clinic staffers will help people find the care they’re looking for, Fowler said
People can call to set up an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome, Fowler said. To set up an appointment for the screening, call 903-212-2930
