RAA exhibit
The Redwood Art Association will host the 68th “Fall Exhibition” in memory of David Boston at its gallery in Eureka. Boston was an integral part of the growth and development of the RAA gallery for many years
This judged member exhibition will be held from Aug.18 to Sept. 18. This year’s judge is Linda Ganstrom, whose art blends the refined realism of her porcelain sculpture with elements of ornamentation and storytelling
Online entry is now open through Friday at 7 p.m. Physical entry day is Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Deliver art to the Redwood Art Association Gallery, 603 F St., Eureka on entry day. Online pre-entries are preferred

On nature writing
The 12th annual “Nature Writing Workshop” with poet and writer Jerry Martien will take place Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Headwaters Forest Reserve
Martien, along with poet and CalTrout restoration manager Katy Gurin, will the workshop. Participants will meet at the Elk River Trailhead and walk one-half mile along the paved Elk River Trail to the Headwaters Education Center to write and share poetry. Attendees will stop along the way to hear poems and stories of this year’s theme, “Forest defenders: from tree-sitters to orange-belly newts, and from rangers to activists,” including the Elk River residents whose protests led to the creation of Headwaters Reserve.
Ranger Anna Arsic will provide additional background describing how BLM stewardship continues that forest defense, including its partnership with the Wiyot Tribe
The Headwaters Trailhead and parking lot are located at the end of Elk River Road, off U.S. Highway 101 from the Herrick Avenue exit south of Eureka. The event is free and open to all ages
Tour the marsh
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m
Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Jonah Lenert at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy incredible views of Humboldt Bay, easy-to-walk trails and a great diversity of birdlife
Marsh tour
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday
Meet leader Barbara Reisman at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk that will focus on plants. This event is held rain or shine. For more information, call 707-826-2359
Birding tour
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour along the Eureka Waterfront Trail on Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m. with leader Ralph Bucher
This relatively urban trail offers the potential to observe species abundance and diversity compared to many more remote locations. Watch out for cormorants, loons, grebes and even otters diving for their meals in the bay alongside the trail
This walk is on a flat, paved trail that is wheelchair accessible. Everyone will meet at the foot of Del Norte Street. Email Bucher to sign up for this field trip at thebook@reninet.com

A dance featuring live music and “a great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9
