A juvenile male is accused of using artificial intelligence to create sexually explicit images of juvenile female students, Knightdale Police have confirmed to WRAL.
“Based on the investigation to date, the juvenile has been charged with nine counts of Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a Class E felony,” said a Knightdale spokesperson.
The District Attorney’s Office in Wake County could not comment on the existence of whether the case exists, citing juvenile court restrictions. However, a secured custody order was issued on June 18, 2026
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation. In accordance with North Carolina law, no additional information regarding the identities of those involved or other details of the investigation will be released, as the case involves juvenile victims and a juvenile offender,” A Knightdale spokesperson added.
The development comes after several local parents reached out to WRAL, saying their children within the Wake County Public School system were victims in an alleged criminal juvenile investigation.
Several parents described how their children learned this summer they were the subject of having other photos of them manipulated by a juvenile suspect, and then using artificial intelligence to depict them in a sexually explicit manner.
It is currently unclear from the investigation the scope of the issue.
Parents say the alleged the photos were taken from othere students.
In a response from a spokesperson with Wake County Public Schools, the name in which parents provided to WRAL was “not a student enrolled” in the district.
“We do not have additional information to share,” the spokesperson added.
