Jaguar Land Rover is temporarily suspending all vehicle shipments to the United States in response to President Donald Trump’s newly imposed 25% tariff on foreign cars.
The move highlights the growing toll of escalating trade tensions, which have already wiped over $5 trillion from U.S. stock markets in just two days. It also marks one of the clearest signs yet of the impact on British businesses and workers.
The UK-based automaker, which employs 38,000 people in Britain, will begin the pause on Monday as it assesses how to navigate the increased costs affecting its U.S. exports. According to The Telegraph, the suspension is expected to last for two weeks.
The U.S. is a critical market for Jaguar Land Rover, accounting for nearly a quarter of its 430,000 vehicle sales in the year to March. Over that period, the company sold £6.5 billion worth of vehicles to American customers—more than in any other country.
The decision comes amid broader concerns that tens of thousands of UK automotive jobs could be at risk due to the tariffs.
President Trump has remained defiant, declaring that “only the weak will fall” in the face of the trade dispute.
