Tenn. (WBBJ) – The Jackson Regional Airport recorded its busiest month on record last month, with 1,227 passengers flying from the airport, according to airport officials
The airport’s board met Monday evening and reviewed several agenda items, including the summer travel figures and new lease approvals
Executive Director Kyle Barron said the passenger increase carries a significant economic impact for the region
“To put that in comparison, the last time that we did that survey, it was about 52 million so almost tripling, because you’ve got a jet that flies 50 seats to Chicago and Atlanta, six days a week, and so it is a $128 million impact for our community, for all of West Tennessee, and we’re excited to be here for it,” Barron said
The board also approved new leases aimed at expanding services at the airport
“So we’ll be adding a new flight school, Right Rudder Aechanic, they’re gonna be starting in September, and so that’s an opportunity for more individuals to come out, learn about ating into the sky,” Barron said
The board also discussed a community response survey related to air service. Pending approval from the Department of Transportation, a new destination city could be added based on community responses
