Simply Fondue closed in Dallas in summer 2026 after serving cook-it-yourself food on Greenville Avenue for over 35 years. It’s the third historic restaurant to close in Dallas-Fort Worth recently; Cantina Laredo shuttered in Addison after 42 years in early August, and the nearly 40-year-old Thai Soon will serve its final plates at the end of the month
The East Dallas restaurant was Simply Fondue’s longest-lasting location. Over the years, the brand expanded across Dallas-Fort Worth to Addison, Flower Mound, Arlington and more. But by mid-2026, the Greenville Avenue restaurant was the only remaining Simply Fondue.
A Simply Fondue in Fort Worth’s Sundance Square closed in April 2026, with plans to move near the convention center, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, but the restaurant has not reopened yet

When Simply Fondue made its Greenville Avenue debut in 1990, it brought new life to a 1960s tradition. Did Dallas’ competitive dining market have room for this throwback cuisine? “Actually,” wrote The Dallas Morning News in a late 1990 restaurant review, “a lot of people seem to have missed the communal fun of cooking their own food Swiss-style.”
Indeed, Dallas diners — many who were “young and boisterous,” The News observed in 1990 — came to Greenville Avenue’s hot, new spot to dip long forks speared with fruit, veggies, meat and bread into hot pots of liquid.
Despite the DIY set-up, Simply Fondue was never a low-cost restaurant. It was more of a date-night spot where diners were encouraged to “play with your food,” The News said in 2002.
Over the years, Lowest Greenville grew up around it. Next door, a fancy tasting-menu restaurant Carte Blanche opened, then closed, soon to be replaced by 19-course Japanese restaurant Shoyo in a few weeks. Simply Fondue spent decades in the same spot, its owners watching as the City Council tightened rules for bars on Greenville Avenue in 2011, which brought about a domino effect of closed nightclubs replaced by restaurants. Then came Trader Joe’s across the street and new apartments nearby.

Through decades of significant change on Greenville Avenue, Simply Fondue was still there.
Its main fondue competitor, The Melting Pot, remains active. The Melting Pot has nearly 100 locations, and a new one opened in Allen last week, CultureMap reports
The operator of Simply Fondue in East Dallas didn’t respond to requests for commentt closed
The landlord, Madison Partners, is working on leasing the space
“Simply Fondue has been part of the Lowest Greenville story for a long time, and we’re grateful for their prior role in the neighborhood,” Madison Partners managing partner Jon Hetzel wrote in an email.

“Every concept has its run, and as this one closes we’re excited to bring a great new restaurant to Lowest Greenville.”
