This week, I want to introduce you to a woman that I was told I needed to meet years ago. I have admired her from afar and hoped to get to meet her most of my life. She has written for some of the most well-known newspapers in the country. And when I heard about her, she was writing for the American fashion magazine called ‘McCall’s.’ She is Marylou Luther Imparato, and she writes under the name well-known throughout the fashion world, Marylou Luther
Marylou Luther Imparato has covered the world of fashion for decades. She spends most of time living in New York City, but recently she graciously welcomed us into her summer home in Cambridge, Nebraska, remembering her parents who established it nearly a century ago
“I’m pretty sure they moved here in 1928. And I was born in 1930.”
On this day Marylou took me on a tour of her childhood home along with her friends Gloria Hilton and Jennifer Barnes
“They mean the world to me. You don’t find friends like Jennifer and Gloria in New York. I mean, you have to belong to an organization to get to know somebody, to be a friend. Here, it’s just, they’re a part of the scene, and you meet them, and you fall in love.”
The grand tour gives the former Chicago Tribune and L.A. Times fashion editor and columnist an opportunity to reflect on the many treasures she and her family have acquired over time
Marylou has many precious keepsakes that give her a chance to tell captivating stories about her life as a fashion journalist and a world traveler, including the time she, her mother, and some family friends took a trip to the Vatican
“We went to Europe together. It was 1952. And, we had an audience with the Pope, and that was just, oh my God, an audience with the Pope!”
On this day in 2026, Marylou attended a special event that included refreshments and dinner at the Concert on the Creek with music performed by the Nebraska Chamber Players in Cambridge
During her time as a fashion journalist, Marylou spent time with some of the most well renowned fashion designers of the 20th and 21st century, including welcoming everyone from Gianni Versace, to Oscar de la Renta, to Giorgio Armani into her home when she lived in Beverly Hills. And she’s been honored both at home, and abroad
“I suppose the thing I was most happy about was getting the award in Paris from the French government. That’s because I was so trained in the fact that Paris is the home of the center and always will be of fashion, to get an award from the French government, was just the highlight of, I guess, of my career.”
But on top of her international acclaim, Marylou cherishes the house she grew up in that has become a sort of museum for her life and career
“Well, it does feel like home.”
