I think they probably fall outside the playoff picture

You look at, like, the Washington Capitals and how much better they got this season, or off-season I should say

You know, you look at the teams that already made it

It’ll be interesting to see how New Jersey is this year

But with all the strength in the Atlantic as well, like, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Metro only got three teams in the playoffs again

Mm-hmm

So it’s gonna be a big uphill battle

And, you know, Ryan Lomberg is not Mason Marchment by any stretch of the imagination

I was kind of thinking about it the other day, like, I sat several chairs down from Ryan Lomberg for most of the Stanley Cup th- in Florida two years ago, and I was not near the ice, I will tell you that

But, you know, he is an agitator

He will, you know, drop the gloves and defend his teammates, so that’s great, for Columbus

But I just don’t think they have the horses right now to actually be competitive in that division, or any division for that matter

I don’t know

There’s some divisions in the American Hockey League, Ryan, I think they could have a chance at making the playoffs

Um- They could definitely do that, yes

Th- you’re right

They’re, they’re in a mix with Pittsburgh, the New York Islanders, and the Philadelphia Flyers, and, you know, s- you know, surprising things can happen

Like, I wouldn’t have guessed that Pittsburgh and Philly would both be in the playoffs, this past season, and, you know, it was such a weird Metro that, you know, both teams surprisingly made it

I’m with you though

I think all five, I think the top five teams from the Atlantic make the playoffs, leaving only three from the Metro

And, you know, you’re probably right

It’s gonna be Carolina, it’s gonna be Washington, and then it’s gonna be one of those teams that you mentioned, whether it’s Jersey, Pittsburgh, Islanders, Philly, or Columbus

So th- they’ll have a chance

You know, you take away that huge fall that the Columbus Blue Jackets had in the last couple weeks, and it was a playoff team

At the same time, you know, I still think that the futures of Zach Werenski and Kirill Marchenko are hanging over their head

Now, the word is from Don Waddell that both guys are coming into camp

I wonder, you know, you could say they’re coming back, but, like, what kind of m- mental state are they coming back in, knowing that, like, for this past week it looked like both guys were heading out the door?

And maybe that’s partly media driven, and just all the rumors and speculation just kind of taking a mind of its own

But, you know, y- you, you got Werenski and Marchenko, your top two scorers from this past season, you know, very much look like they were leaving Columbus, and now they’re coming back

And again, you know, from everything we heard from Rick Bonas at the end of the season, what does that dressing room look like?

And you don’t have Boone Jenner

Mm-hmm

Like, it does feel like something has to kind of give, in Columbus

And it, it’s gonna be a weird kind of dichotomy just kinda looking at their roster and their makeup going, “All right, who actually wants to be here, and who actually believes this team can be a playoff team?”
