First images of NFL’s modular flag football arena emerge

The NFL’s global flag-football initiative includes an effort to make the sport more popular domestically. It includes the establishment of professional flag-football leagues, men’s and women’s, to debut in 2027
The league has previously suggested that the arena could be portable, with the thing moving from city to city like a big top. Per McCormick, the first year will be played in a single location. Moving forward, it’ll expand to other locations
The estimated cost of the facility wasn’t disclosed. In all, the NFL has $160 million earmarked for the new endeavor
There will be many more details to come, including (we assume) the specific rules for the NFL’s version of the sport. It’s possible that the league will add tweaks aimed at making flag football less like a pinball machine with a pigskin in it and more like a 7-on-7 competition
Regardless, the NFL is going all-in on flag football. The only question is whether enough fans of tackle football will make the pivot to a brand of the sport that lacks helmets, pads, and hitting
