It’s safe to say that Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley isn’t a fan of joint practices in the NFL.Â

The Eagles had joint practices with the New England Patriots this week and afterwards, Barkley made it clear that doesn’t enjoy the concept of sharing the practice field with another team before the start of the season.Â
“I’m the wrong guy to ask because I hate joint practices, to be honest. I think one day is good,” Barkley replied when asked about the benefits of joint practices.Â
“More times than not nothing good comes out of it. When you have the work it’s good, but then you get the pushing, the shoving and someone says this about you and it’s ‘I don’t know about that but you’re this.’ It’s immature when you get to that level. I have to do a better job, too, because I’m a little troublemaker sometimes, but I was good this week.”
Barkley’s opinion regarding joint practices isn’t shared by everyone in the Eagles organization. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has the opposite view of Barkley, as he appreciates the opportunity to test plays and schemes against an actual opponent provided by joint practices.Â

“I love doing these things. I think these things are great. I wish we would do another one. It’s great to go against a new team, new schemes, new players,” Fangio said
“You learn things. You’re going to get unscouted looks and plays and see how people react. These things are tremendous and can’t get enough of it.”
Players might not like them, but it’s easy to understand why coaches appreciate an opportunity to get an idea of where they stand against an actual opponent, as opposed to continuously practicing against your own team
So, unfortunately for Barkley, it seems like joint practices will continue to be a preseason staple for teams across the league’s landscape.Â
