The Federal Ald Airport to “enhance the travel experience for families,” according to the U.S. Department of Transportation
Money from the grant will be used to reconstruct the airport’s passenger bridges to facilitate an easier boarding and deplaning experience for families with small children, the transportation department said in a statement. Love Field, the home base of Southwest Airlines, is in the beginning phases of a $2.5 billion capital improvement program that will bring new infrastructure like a consolidated rental car facility, a new terminal headhouse, a new parking garage and more.
The money being used by the transportation department to invest in Love Field comes from the Infrastrucutre Investment and Jobs Act, which was signed into law during President Joe Biden’s administration. Starting in 2022, the law provided $14.5 billion in funding over five years for the Airport Infrasturcutre Grant Program. In May, the department announced that DFW International Airport, the central hub of American Airlines, would receive $70 million in funding for runway rehabilitation

“This administration is focused on making travel happier and more convenient for American families,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement. “The golden age of travel includes a family first agenda. We’re making airports inviting spaces for parents and children to relax and recharge prior to boarding.”
