Cybersecurity incident forces Lincoln Town Hall to close

LINCOLN, Maine (WGME) — Lincoln Town Hall is closed on Monday following a cybersecurity incident
Officials say a cybersecurity incident is affecting portions of the town’s computer network
On Friday, the town’s information technology provider, the Motorbrain Group, notified them that files on portions of the town’s network had been encrypted
Upon discovering the incident, officials say steps were taken to isolate affected systems and prevent any further impact
Preliminary information indicates that the incident may have originated as early as August 13

Several town computer systems have been affected, including the main file server and other network infrastructure
Town officials say IT professionals are investigating the incident, reviewing available backups, and developing a restoration plan. Systems will be brought back online methodically to ensure they can be restored safely and without the risk of reinfection
The full scope of the incident is still being evaluated. The town is working to determine what systems and information may have been affected
Town officials say services may experience temporary disruptions while this work is underway
Town hall is closed on Monday. It is unclear when it will reopen
