Colo. (KJCT) – Colorado has been ranked No. 1 in education by U.S. News and World Report, a recognition tied to the state’s investment in students and their education
The Colorado Promise is an income-qualified program that pays residents back for up to 65 college credits. The program is designed to make higher education accessible to all Colorado residents regardless of financial circumstances
Colorado Mesa University President John Marshall said the quality of education begins with the relationship between professors and students, and that smaller class sizes at CMU contribute to the level of education provided
“We’re really trying to focus on how we elevate the trades, make sure that students have access to careers, training, job skills that actually turn into a career,” Marshall said. “And secondarily, when they come here for a four-year degree, they’re welcome. They’re taught how to think and how to think critically, not what to believe, and that they could do so at an affordable price.”
Officials across the state responded to the ranking and expressed hope that the progress continues. Rebecca McClellan, chair of the Colorado State Board of Education, issued a statement on the recognition
“This recognition reflects the shared commitment of educators, families, school leaders, and communities across our state,” McClellan said. “I am proud of the work of the Colorado Department of Education to support policies that strengthen public education, expand opportunity, and help ensure every student has the knowledge and skills to succeed in school, in their careers, and in life.”
