Buffalo mayor Sean Ryan appoints new finance commissioner

N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo finance veteran Bryce Link has been appointed as the city’s new finance commissioner, Mayor Sean Ryan announced Wednesday

Link is set to take over as finance commissioner following the resignation of Jessica Brown on July 7. His planned starting date is Aug. 4

Link has spent nearly two decades as the principal analyst with the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority, where he was responsible for analyzing policies, reviewing budgets, and overseeing the city’s annual budget. Before joining the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority, he was a budget fellow with the New York State Division of the Budget

“Bryce Link brings exactly the kind of experience, judgment, and deep understanding of municipal finance that our administration needs as we continue the work of getting Buffalo’s fiscal house back in order,” Ryan said in a statement. “His years of experience reviewing city budgets, long-term financial planning, and government operations will be invaluable as we continue strengthening our fiscal foundation so we can focus on delivering the basic city services residents deserve.”

Link has also served on Hamburg’s Budget Review Committee and its Economic Development Committee. He earned a Master of Public Administration from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs

His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Buffalo Common Council, which will meet next on July 21
