Brinks Home Confirms Breach After Hackers Claim Theft of 5 Million Records
The home-security giant says customer contact information and millions of chat logs may have been stolen by ShinyHunters, the cybercrime group that has targeted dozens of major companies since 2020

Brinks Home, one of the largest home security and monitoring providers in North America, has confirmed that “a portion” of its IT infrastructure was hacked last month by the cybercrime group ShinyHunters, which reportedly stole nearly 5 million records, including customer contact information and support chats, and has threatened to leak them
The company said it discovered the breach on July 20, one week after the hackers claimed they had accessed data on 1.1 million Brinks clients and more than 3.8 million chat logs a cybersecurity news website
“After detecting the incident, we promptly activated our incident response procedures and took steps to contain the situation,” Brinks said in a statement posted on its website. “We are working diligently to investigate and will provide relevant updates as appropriate.”
While the Dallas-based company has not verified the scope of the theft, it acknowledged that the hackers said they would post the stolen material publicly if a ransom isn’t paid

The exact dollar amount of the extortion demand has not been disclosed by Brinks or ShinyHunters
PCMag reports that the notorious cybercriminals recently gave Brinks “a final warning to reach out” by July 30 or the stolen data would be leaked, along with what the hackers called “several annoying (digital) problems that’ll come your way.”
ShinyHunters added, “Make the right decision, don’t be the next headline.”
