This is a preliminary number and may change as damage assessments continue
Approximately 110 damaged or destroyed structures are in Electoral Area “F”, including the Faulder and Meadow Valley areas, and 40 are in the District of Summerland
“Structures (are) any structure of note on a property, including things like barns, which are very important for farmers, as well as homes,” Kelly Greene, the B.C. Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, said
“I will leave it to the local government to communicate structure losses with residents before we release specific details about the losses that have been experienced by people on the ground.”
During the Summerland Stage 1 re-entry (Friday, Aug. 14), 400 properties were moved from evacuation order to evacuation alert
During the Summerland Stage 2 re-entry (Sunday, Aug. 16), approximately 800 more properties were moved from evacuation order to evacuation alert

Stage 3 re-entry is being planned, but due to the impacts of the wildfire, there will be some properties that will remain under evacuation order
Re-entry is being assessed area by area, the regional district states. There is no fixed date for the entire fire area
Meanwhile, most of the evacuees from the district of Summerland were told on Tuesday morning that the evacuation order is being downgraded to an evacuation alert
This affects Summerland proper, west of Highway 97, up to and including a portion of Cartwright Avenue, a portion of Haddrell Avenue (south of Dale Meadows Road)
“Pretty much the whole town now,” Summerland Mayor Doug Holmes said
“Ninety per cent of the town is now back. So that’s another 3,380 properties or something, in addition to the 1,200 that came back on the weekend. So everywhere except a couple of valleys that were most affected, and we’re still doing geotech work and moving danger trees and restoring power and stuff like that, and then the rest of it will come back as well.”
However, the following properties remain on evacuation order:
- All addresses on Garnet Valley Road (north of Jones Flat Road)
- 12406 Blagborne Ave.
- 12407 Blagborne Ave.
- 11709 Mott St.
- 13420 Mott St.
- 13221 Durick Ave.
- 13410 Durick Ave.
- 14423 Cartwright Ave.
- 14605 Cartwright Ave.
- 13611 Cartwright Ave.
- 14612 Garnet Ave.
- 14806 Garnet Ave.
- 14810 Garnet Ave.
The Bald Range wildfire is still listed as out of control and has now grown to 21,391 hectares since it was discovered 11 days ago
The BC Wildfire Service said crews have now been focused on the northwestern flank, where growth has been the most aggressive
Highway 97 is open in both directions 24 hours a day, but there is no access west of Highway 97 between Walters Road and Bentley Road
