Ryan Seacrest was one of the few names in Hollywood who wasn’t in attendance at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding. Though it wasn’t because he didn’t score an invitation
The Grammy winner and Super Bowl champion, who got engaged in August last year, tied the knot at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3 after nearly three years of dating
During Monday’s episode of his morning radio show On Air With Ryan Seacrest, Seacrest revealed that he was invited to the star-studded wedding and originally RSVP’d “yes,” but had to back out after Disney hired him to host its 4th of July 250 special
“It was a confidential invitation to everybody that was invited. So when you were doing your reports about the wedding, I was just on the inside screaming, outside very composed,” Seacrest said to his co-hosts. “I RSVP’d to go, and then Disney hired me to do the 4th of July 250 special on the 3rd and the 4th, so I had to cancel.”
One of his co-hosts called it a “waste of an invite.” Another suggested he should have done both
“It wasn’t a waste,” the American Idol host responded. “I was actually really excited. I was kind of torn. I went through the minutes; I couldn’t have done both. And the actual wedding was in the afternoon. I went through the minutes! But I was so honored and thrilled to be invited.”
Seacrest went on to reveal that he ran into Swift and Kelce at a restaurant after he first RSVP’d
“We talked about ‘the event,’ because we couldn’t say it out loud,” Seacrest said. “She was like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be so much fun. We’re going to have the best time! It’s going to go late.’ I was like, ‘I cannot wait. I’m so excited.’”
That run-in was also when he met the Kansas City Chiefs star for the first time. Meanwhile, Seacrest has known Swift since the early days of her career, when she was a rising country artist, making his cancellation even more disappointing
“I RSVP’d ‘yes,’ I saw them a couple of weeks later to confirm, then I had to cancel,” he continued. “But I really had no choice. That’s part of my job at Disney, to do these things.”
Among the celebrities seen arriving at the arena for the wedding were Selena Gomez, Jack Antonoff, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Lena Dunham, Ed Sheeran, Jessica Chastain, Dakota Johnson, Jason Sudeikis, Benson Boone, Hugh Grant, Kelsea Ballerini, Camila Cabello, Karlie Kloss and Josh Kushner, Ethan Hawke, Zoë Kravitz, Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann, Tate McRae, the Haim sisters, The Chainsmokers’ Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, Erin Andrews, Charissa Thompson, Nikki Glaser, Ellie Goulding, George Stephanopoulos, Aaron Dessner, Julianne Moore, George Kittle, Eric Stonestreet, Swift’s longtime best friend Abigail Anderson, San Francisco 49ers star Kyle Juszczyk and his wife, Kristin, Seattle Seahawks star Cooper Kupp, Graham Norton, Joe Buck and his wife, Michelle Beisner-Buck, Barbara Corcoran, Jenny Han, Tommy Hilfiger and Sombr.
