Greater Midland Community Center will now be offering free counseling services for senior citizens through a partnership with Family & Children’s Services of Mid-Michigan
The services are for anyone 65 and up, and will help people navigate life transitions, grief, or anything else they may need or want to discuss with a professional. Tad Hupfer, the individual supplying the services, specializes in counseling services for the elderly and has experience working with senior living facilities and independent living communities

According to the community center, participants will have a private and comfortable space to speak freely during their counseling sessions

Counseling will take place every Wednesday and does not require a referral to access. Interested parties can call 989-631-5390 to schedule an appointment
Freeland Bean & Grain named Michigan Agriculture Exporter of the Year

Freeland Bean & Grain Inc have been recognized as this year’s Agriculture Exporter of the Year by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development
A ceremony took place at the company’s facility in Freeland on Tuesday, Aug. 12, with MDARD Director Tim Boring in attendance to present the award. The award is given annually to a company that produces and exports high quality, Michigan-grown products. To be eligible at least 50% of their product must be grown in-state and exports must be a significant contribution to the business
Freeland Bean and Grain has been a local, family-owned business in the region since 1983, dealing in soybeans, soft red wheat, corn, and edible black beans. In 2005, the company began exporting its products to countries such as Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala
The company also sponsored a booth at the SIAL Paris International Food Exhibition in 2024, as one of MDARD’s supported Michigan delegations

According to MDARD, the winner of the Michigan Agriculture Exporter of the Year Award is chosen through “export growth, innovation and the pursuit of new export markets,” and are selected by an externallys
Freeland Bean and Grain’s exports are entirely grown in Michigan, with their black bean exports accounting for a quarter of their total sales annually
Clock and Candle marks Midland opening with community celebration
Clock and Candle Brewatorium held its official ribbon-cutting on Friday, Aug. 14 with a summer celebration for the community

The brewatorium has been open since June 24 inside Midland’s historic train depot on Townsend St. It offers a hang-out spot with food options, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
For its ribbon-cutting, the company brought in local food trucks, raffles, and activities for all ages
Clock and Candle is open Wednesday through Sunday
