Scott Eastwood recently revealed a memorable confrontation between his father, director Clint Eastwood, and actor Kevin Costner
Speaking on the podcast “Armchair Expert,” Scott recounted what he called a “legendary story” from the set of the 1993 film “A Perfect World,” which his father both directed and starred alongside Costner
“I’m sort of going to paraphrase it, and I’ll probably tell it a little wrong. But Kevin Costner — sort of going through, maybe, the Kevin Costner rise to fame — and maybe got a big ego,” he said. “They were doing ‘A Perfect World.’ And they’re both starring in this movie. My dad is directing it. Apparently, Kevin wouldn’t come out of his trailer for some reason.”
When informed his co-star would not come out, Clint told the crew, “Well, send him home then,” Scott said
Costner was reportedly shocked to learn he had been removed from the scene. The crew told the actor that the director had changed the plan because he was not present. The following day, Costner was reportedly on set and ready to work
The incident shaped Scott’s own approach to his career. Scott, 40, explained that his father “doesn’t do trailers and things,” believing in the importance of being present on set and learning the ins and outs of movie-making
“He always told me, too, as a kid, ‘You want to learn how to make movies? You want to learn how to do this? You stay here with everybody else, and you make the damn movie,’ ” Scott recalled
In “A Perfect World,” Costner played an escaped convict while Clint portrayed the Texas Ranger pursuing him. The film also featured Laura Dern and Bradley Whitford
This story comes months after Clint’s other son, Kyle, a film composer and jazz musician, shared that his father had retired from acting during an interview with French outlet France 3
“I have many fond memories of working with him. Now he’s retired, he’s 95 years old,” Kyle said, referencing his father’s age at the time of the interview (Clint turned 96 on May 31). “I was very lucky to be able to work with him on quite a few films. It was a great experience for me.”
