MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich., (WBN/WGTU) — The Grand Hotel is welcoming back a piece of cinematic history from the movie “Somewhere in Time,” which was filmed on Mackinac Island inside the hotel
The original carved chair used during the filming of “Somewhere in Time” is coming back home to Mackinac Island, where the Grand Hotel said it will be displayed in its Moments in Time Room, a dedicated display area
“Somewhere in Time” is a romantic fantasy drama from Universal Pictures about a man who becomes obsessed with a photo of a woman at the Grand Hotel
Through self-hypnosis, the man transports himself back in time to 1912 to find the woman in the photo
The chair was featured in the theater scene where W.F. Robinson (Christopher Plummer) watches Elise McKenna (Jane Seymour) as she sits for her portrait
The Grand Hotel describes the chair as an iconic piece that played a small but meaningful role in the film
According to the Grand Hotel, the chair was discovered in Universal Studios’ prop storage by set decorator Mary Ann Biddle
The chair was later purchased and returned to the place where the film was brought to life, the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island
