Foodie news: New Hingham coffee shop, famous pizza place eyes Weymouth

A Weymouth coffee shop planning a Hingham location, a popular Connecticut pizza restaurant coming to Weymouth and a farm fundraiser with local eats are among the foodie news on the South Shore this week
Slow Coffee in Weymouth’s Columbian Square will open a Hingham location later this year. Sally’s Apizza, a Connecticut favorite, has its eyes on Weymouth for a future location. And Holly Hill Farm has announced its largest fundraiser, the annual Farm Fest

Weymouth coffee shop to open Hingham location
A popular Weymouth coffee shop will open a second location in Hingham later this year
Anson Gao and his wife, Cindy Wang, plan to open Slow Coffee at 106 North St. in Hingham. The approximately 1,200-square-foot space was previously occupied by Doublemint, an interior design business
Gao and Wang opened their first Slow Coffee location in Columbian Square, next to the Cameo Theater, in January 2023
Some of the shop’s specialties are the tiramisu iced latte, which is sweet, rich and creamy like the dessert, and cinnamon caramel apple butter latte
Slow Coffee also serves bagels with house-made ube halaya and coconut cream. Ube is a yam originally from the Philippines known for its purple color and sweet taste that has become popular in many Asian countries
The new location will serve coffee, baked goods and have seating for about 20 customers
Popular Connecticut pizza joint planning Weymouth location
Sally’s Apizza, known for its New Haven-style apizza, has the South Shore on its expansion list
The restaurant’s website includes Weymouth among the 18 locations it plans to have by 2027. It doesn’t specify where exactly in town it plans to open or when
The restaurant originated in Connecticut, with its first three locations being New Haven, Stamford and Fairfield. It’s part of the “holy trinity” of apizza restaurants in New Haven, which also includes Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and and Modern Apizza. Its first Massachusetts location opened in 2023 in Woburn
Pronounced “ah-beets,” apizza is used in the New Haven area for pizza that has a thin crust and is baked in a coal-fired brick oven
Holly Hill Farm to host its annual Farm Fest
Holly Hill Farm’s annual Farm Fest, its largest fundraiser, will take place from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26
The event will feature music, food and drinks from local businesses, including the Corner Stop, Untold Brewing, the Fresh Feast, Bia Bistro and others
