Maine (WABI) – All aboard the Castine House & Garden Tour, a historical adventure that opens the doors to some of the community’s most distinctive properties
This year’s tour includes 12 homes and three gardens, showcasing everything from early Castine-era houses to spaces that blend modern architecture with colonial-style design
One of the oldest homes on the tour is tied to the story of the Dice Head Lighthouse, a landmark with deep roots in the village
“This property was originally owned by a man named Jacob Dice who owned essentially this entire end of the peninsula… the reason why Dice Head was named Dice Headlight is because of Jacob Dice. He originally gave the land in the early 19th century that was where the lighthouse was built,” said Kate McMahon, the executive director of the Castine Historical Society
Beyond the house and garden stops, organizers say visitors can also explore the Castine Historical Society, the Wilson Museum, and enjoy food trucks during the event
